Can you imagine what our world would be like if we truly acted like every person—every single one—is created in the image of God Almighty?
Do you realize how powerful this single, biblical truth is? It should be the end of all evil, hatred, bullying, racism, and depression. Yet, even Christians often live as if this is a beautiful fairytale instead of the absolute, immutable reality handed down in the Word of God.
If we believe the Bible, then the truth is this: You, beloved, were created to be like God.
The Root of a Joy-Filled Life
Truly understanding this core identity—that you are an image-bearer of the Creator—is the root to a joy-filled life. When we know who we are to God, it changes everything:
- It changes how we view ourselves (self-worth is fixed).
- It changes how we view others (dignity is universal).
- It changes how we view the circumstances of our life (God is present).
The Intimate Process: God Took His Time Creating Us in His Image
Yahweh is not an absent God who created the world and walked away. We see His intentionality and intimacy clearly in Genesis 1 and 2. The creation account of humanity stands apart.
Formed in the Image of God, Not Spoken
God took dirt from the ground and FORMED it. He did not form anything else in creation this way—everything else He simply spoke into existence (read Genesis 1: The God of Order). But for us…He took His time. He molded us, making us special, designed to be like Him.
The Breath of Life
THEN, He breathed HIS LIFE into us. The very breath of God is inside each of the 8 billion people living in the world today. The thing that keeps us alive is the very essence of God Himself, residing within His masterpiece.
Designed for Difference: The Beauty of Complementarity
But He didn’t stop there. He didn’t create one man and decide that was enough. God delights in intimate relationship, and He wanted the same for us. He created a woman to complete the man and fill the earth.
Notice the design: He did not create another man. He did not create another person to be exactly like the man. No. He created a woman—someone who was different in appearance, ability, and in temperament.
This was always God’s perfect plan. We know God is omniscient; He didn’t just look around in shock that the man was alone. He knew when He created the man that He would create woman alongside him. It was God’s perfect plan to have a man and woman, created in His image, join together to bring life and order to the world, and to bring all people into existence.
The Final Challenge
The next time you get irritated with someone, roll your eyes at perceived stupidity, or want to give up because you think you just aren’t enough… remember this profound truth:
The God who created the entire universe with a word took His time creating you in His image.
Are you going to tell God you think His child is stupid? Are you saying He is not enough?
